Star Odia para-shuttler Pramod Bhagat hogged the limelight in the Thailand Para Badminton Championship as he clinched two gold medals in the singles and doubles categories of the mega tournament in Thailand on Sunday.

In the singles summit clash, Pramod defeated England’s Daniel Bethell in the first set 21-19. Bethell did not want to play in the second set. Therefore, Pramod was declared the winner and he won the gold medal in the category.

In the doubles category final, Pramod and his partner Sukant Kadam won the gold medal by defeating compatriot Nitesh Kumar and Tarun 18-21, 21-14, 21-19 in a keenly contested game.

In the first set, Pramod and his partner Sukant lost 18-21. However, in the second set, they came back strongly to win 21-14. They also won the final set 21-19 to clinch the yellow metal.

Meanwhile, another Odisha player Deep Ranjan Bisoyee had to be satisfied with a bronze medal in the doubles category. Deep and his partner Manoj Sarkar lost to their compatriot duo of Nitesh Kumar and Tarun 18-21, 10-21 in the semifinals. 

The Para Sports Association of Odisha congratulated the Odia players who performed well in the competition.
