Sourav Ganguly teases cameo in new Netflix series
Filmmaker Neeraj Pandey has heightened anticipation with hints towards a surprise cameo by former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly in the forthcoming Netflix series, 'Khakee: The Bengal Chapter'.
During a trailer launch in Kolkata, Pandey coyly addressed rumours regarding Ganguly's involvement, saying, “As far as Sourav is concerned... keep looking,” which left the audience in a state of eager suspense.
Pandey, who both conceptualised and contributed to the writing of the series, expressed that his connection to Kolkata deeply influenced his decision to set the show's second chapter in the historic city.
“I was born and raised in Kolkata. There was a personal bias,” Pandey explained, with a familiarity that clearly impacts the storytelling.
This marks the inaugural instance where a Hindi series is entirely comprised of a Bengali ensemble, featuring prominently on an international platform like Netflix. 'Khakee: The Bengal Chapter' is scheduled for its release on 20 March.
Directed by Debatma Mandal and Tushar Kanti Ray, 'Khakee: The Bengal Chapter' follows the successful 'Khakee: The Bihar Chapter' released in 2022. This season unfolds in the early 2000s, chronicling the challenges faced by an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer in combating crime, corruption, and political intrigue in Kolkata.
The narrative highlights the officer's relentless battle against powerful entities exploiting the system. With a screenplay co-written by Neeraj Pandey, Debatma Mandal, and Samrat Chakraborty, the series showcases an impressive cast from the Bengali film industry, including notable actors such as Prosenjit Chatterjee, Jeet, Parambrata Chattopadhyay, and Saswata Chatterjee.
