Shubman Gill in a heated conversation with IPL 2025 umpires during SRH clash
Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill found himself at the centre of controversy during Friday’s IPL 2025 clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), engaging in heated exchanges with umpires over contentious decisions.
Despite GT’s commanding 38-run victory, Gill’s fiery reactions stole headlines as he defended his emotional outbursts post-match.
The drama began during GT’s innings when Gill was controversially run out. Third umpire footage showed SRH wicketkeeper Heinrich Klaasen’s gloves millimetres from the stumps as Gill’s bat appeared to hover inside the crease. Dissatisfied, Gill confronted the fourth umpire near the dugout, questioning the ruling.

Ball-tracking showed the impact as “umpire’s call,” sparing Sharma. Gill, unconvinced, argued fiercely when the replay omitted the ball’s pitching point. SRH’s Sharma intervened, lightening the mood with a playful nudge, but Gill’s frustration was evident.
At the presentation, Gill did not offer an apology for his aggression. “There was a little bit of a discussion with me and the umpire. Sometimes there are so many emotions involved as you give your 110 percent; there are bound to be some emotions,” he stated.
Further, the GT skipper emphasised his team’s commitment but sidestepped accountability for the confrontations.
Meanwhile, Gill’s 76 off 38 balls, paired with Jos Buttler’s 64 (37) and Sai Sudharsan’s 48 (23), propelled GT to 224/6. SRH’s reply crumbled under Prasidh Krishna’s precision (2/19), ending at 186/6. Abhishek Sharma’s valiant 74 (41) offered fleeting hope, but SRH’s playoff chances now hang by a thread.

The Titans’ explosive top order and disciplined bowling have reignited their playoff campaign. However, Gill’s combative stance risks disciplinary action from IPL authorities. With momentum on their side, GT will aim to channel their captain’s passion without crossing the line in upcoming matches.
