Usually, a cool, calm, and cheerful person, Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill was seen losing his cool on an umpire during his team’s match against Rajasthan Royals (RR). The young batting sensation engaged in a heated exchange with the umpire over a ‘wide’ ball during the IPL 2024 match against RR in Jaipur on Wednesday.

The rare instance of Gill getting angry unfolded when GT’s Mohit Sharma was bowling to RR skipper Sanju Samson in the 17th over. It was a slower ball pitched on a length well outside the off-stump. The on-field umpire ruled it as wide following which Gill opted for a review.

Initially, the third umpire determined it as ‘not wide’ but later after a thorough review once again reversed his decision and upheld the ‘wide’ call. This turn of events left Gill infuriated who was seen having a heated moment with the umpire.

Fans on social media pointed out that Gill who is usually of cool demeanour is slowly turning into a mature, responsible and aggressive captain. He was heaped praises for taking his responsibility as GT captain very well after the departure of Hardik Pandya who has now replaced Rohit Sharma as the Mumbai Indians (MI) captain.

However, with the help of Gill’s impressive half-century and Rashid Khan’s quick-fire 24 runs, Gujarat Titans (GT) ended Rajasthan Royals (RR) winning streak in a last-over thriller at the Sawai Mangsingh Stadium last evening.

Chasing the target of 197, GT went off to a slow start, but Gill added his half century off just 35 balls. Later Rashid Khan proved crucial for the team and slashed for a boundary through covers to win the match for the Titans by three wickets.
