Punjab Kings' captain Shreyas Iyer's heroic knock against Mumbai Indians guided the side to their second Indian Premier League (IPL) final.

Iyer's blistering 41-ball 87 not out was studded with eight sixes and five fours in the vital chase of 204 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Monday.

Following Iyer's brilliant knock, some experts compared him with former India captains MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli.

"We have got a new 'Captain Cool' in the house. His innings will be remembered for ages as he has walk the talk. He will play his third IPL final as a skipper. We associate Captain Cool and Chase Master titles to Dhoni and Virat and today we saw Iyer doing a similar job. He is the new Captain Cool and Chase Master," said a commentator before former stars Harbhajan Singh and Aakash Chopra.

Former South Africa batter AB de Villiers also praised Iyer for his heroics.

"I'm obviously a huge fan. What happened in the game was out of this world, and Shreyas deserves full credit. Under extreme pressure, he delivered when it mattered," said De Villiers.

"That four off Bumrah past the slip cordon — for me, that was the shot of the night. His sixes were clean, no mishits. He stays calm, doesn't get arrogant or overly emotional — just very level-headed. There are many more runs in him." he added.

Former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar also hailed Iyer for his match-winning knock saying it was a fabulous effort from the right-handed batter.
