Cassian Baliarsingh

Shashank Singh, this one name will be spoken about for a long time after the fiery batsman smashed an unbeaten 61 off just 29 balls to thrash Gujarat Titans (GT). While Preity Zinta’s Punjab Kings had lost all hope to chase a 200-run total, Shashank emerged as the hero of PBKS.

The batting all-rounder smashed a terrific 61 runs with four sixes and six fours to take his team to a win in 19.5 overs. His terrific performance helped PBKS register their second win in four matches in this IPL season.

He was ably supported by Ashutosh Sharma, who also scored an impressive 31 runs off just 17 balls. Chasing a big total, PBKS had suffered an early jolt after Shikhar Dhawan, Jonny Bairstow went too early. PBKS kept on losing wickets at regular intervals and slid to low score by 11th over. However, Shashank joined in and started off his terrific innings with 17 runs in his first over.

He kept on using his long handle, picking up a few boundaries and sixes to keep PBKS in the hunt. The talented batsman brought up his 50 off just 25 balls and later took his team to victory in the 19th over with one ball left.

Interestingly, Shashank Singh is the same player who was supposedly the wrong pick by PBKS. Shashank’s name was called during the auction, and Preity Zinta had vouched for him. Later, Preity realised that he was a different Shashank as there were two players with the same name.

After Shashank’s latest heroics, it is clear that he has now become the lucky charm for Preity Zinta.
