India captain Rohit Sharma was found eating a piece of grass after winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The video of Sharma’s celebratory gesture quickly went viral over various social media platforms following India’s 7-run win over South Africa in the final of the marquee event.

Rohit explained the reason behind this gesture later in a candid interview following the captain’s photoshoot.

According to Rohit, the ground has given them the win, and he wanted to keep a piece of the track with him forever to commemorate the memorable victory. Rohit said he would remember this moment for the rest of his life, as the pitch had played a special role in India’s success.

“This particular pitch was special. Nothing was scripted. It was spontaneous, feeling the moment. When we played on that pitch, we won the game. I felt the moment deeply as we took the field, and that pitch helped us win the game. That ground and that pitch will forever hold a special place in my memory, as it was the site where our dreams came true. I wanted to have a memento to capture the magic of that experience,” said Rohit.

“The experience still feels surreal and unreal. It hasn’t fully sunk in yet. It’s been an incredible moment, just like a dream from the end of the game up until now. Despite the reality that it has indeed happened, we can hardly believe it’s true. The sense of accomplishment and relief we feel is palpable. We’ve dreamed about this moment for years, and have worked tirelessly as a team to make it a reality. Now that we’ve achieved our goal, the feeling of satisfaction is truly rewarding,” he added.
