Once former India coach Ravi Shastri has branded Kuldeep Yadav as the number one spinner for the Men in Blue in overseas conditions. However, after initial success, the chinaman bowler lost his momentum.  Though he has made his comeback into the white ball cricket gradually, he is still far from the opportunity in Test cricket.

However, senior spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has high hopes from Kuldeep in the long format.

“I have always high hopes from Kuldeep. He is an amazing left-hand wrist spinner. He has the most essential feature of maintaining an accurate line which is going to be the key to success in Test cricket,” said Ashwin.

“He has the ability to pitch the ball on a particular spot with a few variations in pace and trajectory. That is a great quality for a wrist spinner. He has all the qualities to be successful in Test cricket,” Ashwin added.

Notably, riding on a brilliant spell by Kuldeep (4/18), India beat South Africa by seven wickets in the third match to clinch the three-match ODI series 2-1. The wrist spinner produced figures of 1/39 and 1/49 in first two matches.

The chinaman bowler has become more consistent since the last IPL .

“I have worked on my rhythm. Now I am varying my pace well. I got confidence from IPL. But my focus has always been on getting the ball to spin,” said Kuldeep.
