Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik felicitated para-athlete Jayanti Behera and shooter Shriyanka Sarangi with cash awards at Naveen Nivas in Bhubaneswar on Saturday for their stupendous show in various international competitions.

Jayanti was presented with cash award of Rs 15,00,000 for winning as many as three medals in the recently concluded World Para-Athletics Championships in Dubai. The top para-athlete from Odisha secured a silver medal in the 200 metres sprint event. She also bagged two bronze medals in the 100 and 400 metres events, respectively.

Meanwhile, Patnaik presented Shriyanka with a cash award of Rs 2,00,000. The shooter from the State won a bronze medal in the 50 metres Rifle 3 Position event in the recently concluded ISSF World cup Shooting.

“Both the sportspersons have brought laurels for the State and the country by winning medals in international tournaments. Their feat will encourage other sportspersons in the State to enhance their performance. I wish them more success in the coming days,” said Patnaik.

Jayanti and Shriyanka were ecstatic after being honoured by the Chief Minister.

“The Odisha government is doing a great job in building modern infrastructure in the State. We have been inspired a lot by this honour. It will help us increase our focus and training to develop further,” they said in unison.
