Odisha chess star International Master (IM) Padmini Rout tied the nuptial knot with Jaykishin Mankani from Mumbai in Bhubaneswar on Sunday.

The marriage was conducted as per the Hindu Vaidik rituals at a hotel in Patia.

As per Padmini’s family sources, Jaykishin is a chess enthusiast and a huge fan of Padmini. He is an IT professional.

Many chess stars from Odisha and outside the State including Soumya Swaminathan and Nisha Mohota participated in the marriage ceremony.

Padmini has brought many laurels for the State and country in chess. She emerged as champion in the U-16 World Chess Championship. She also achieved Woman Grand Master and International Master Titles. She is a four-time National Women’s Premier title holder consecutively from 2014-2017. She was also the Asian women’s champion in 2018.

Padmini played for the Indian national team at Women’s Chess Olympiad, Women’s World Team Chess Championship and Women’s Asian Team Chess Championship. She won an individual gold medal playing on the reserve board at the 2014 Women’s Chess Olympiad in Norway. She was part of the Indian women’s team in the subsequent Chess Olympiads at Baku in 2016 and at Batumi in 2018.

While Padmini is still pursuing chess, she started her second innings from today. The chess star of Odisha is expected to continue playing chess even after her marriage.
