South Asian Tennis Ball Cricket Championship: Odia player Preetam’s heroics help India team emerge champion

India triumphed in the South Asian Tennis Ball Cricket Championship in Nepal, defeating Bangladesh in the final. Odisha's Preetam Pradhan, part of the winning team, was celebrated by his hometown Raikia.

India emerged as champions in the recently concluded South Asian Tennis Ball Cricket Championship in Nepal. Teams like Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh were vying for the top honours in the mega event. Eventually, India clinched the coveted title by getting the better of Bangladesh in the all-important summit clash.

Odisha tennis ball cricketer Preetam Pradhan was part of the Indian team that brought laurels for the country by emerging triumphant. Preetam is on cloud nine as he was part of the victorious Indian team. He was accorded a grand welcome by Raikia residents when he reached home. 

Upon arrival in his village, Preetam expressed his pleasure to be part of the Indian team that emerged champion.

“It was a big moment for me. I am really proud to be part of the Indian team that emerged victorious in the South Asian Tennis Ball Cricket Championship. Many cricketers cherish the dream to play for the Indian team. Though I belong to a remote place named Raikia in Kandhamal district, I am really fortunate and blessed to be part of the national team,” said Preetam.

“With God’s blessings and good wishes from my coaches, I have reached thus far. I am really grateful to my coaches and parents. I was working very hard on my game. I am really happy for the huge achievement,” he added.

Preetam’s parents also expressed their happiness over the success of their son.

“We are so proud of our son’s achievement. He was passionate about cricket from the very childhood. We are pleased that he could pursue his passion and helped the Indian team emerge champion,” said Preetam’s mother.
