Ace Odia para-shuttler Pramod Bhagat and his partner Sukant Kadam, who won the gold medal at the recently concluded Brazil Para-Badminton International 2023, have leapfrogged to World No.1 position in the International Para-Badminton Men’s Doubles Rankings.

The announcement was made by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) on Wednesday. The duo has been playing together for the past eight months in the men’s doubles SL 3- SL 4 category. They have put up a dominating display to win gold medals in the last three tournaments.They emerged champions and clinched gold medals in Brazil Para-Badminton International 2023, Spanish Para-Badminton International 2023, and also the Thailand Para-Badminton Tournament 2022.

Padma Shri Awardee Pramod and Sukant were ecstatic over the development.

“I am really happy to be World No.1 again with Sukant. We both have put in a lot of effort to be World No.1 in the doubles category. I think this is just the start. We are looking forward to achieve many more glories for India,” said an elated Pramod.

“The hard work has really paid off and this is just the beginning. We plan to carry our great form into the upcoming tournaments. Becoming World No.1 will motivate us to work harder. There are a few more areas where we need to develop. Our focus will be on those areas in near future,” said Sukant.

The duo is now preparing for upcoming important tournaments like Thailand Para-Badminton International 2023 and Bahrain Para-Badminton International 2023.
