Not Suryakumar Yadav, this player’s clever move helped to break the rhythm of South Africa

June 29 2024, is a date when every Indian burst into tears and joy after celebrating India’s historic ICC World T20 win in Barbados. Even Indian players showed their emotions on the field after the last ball was bowled and India won the ICC T20 title. India finally put an end to their ICC trophy drought by making a spirited comeback against the mighty South Africa. 

We remember and credit Suryakumar Yadav’s superb catch at long off and Jasprit Bumrah’s brilliant spell which paused South Africa’s scoring rate. But there is another player who played an equally important role in the crucial match. 

During the episode of the Great India Kapil Sharma Show Season 2, Former India T20 Captain Rohit Sharma revealed a cleaver ploy by Rishabh Pant to slow the game. 

"When South Africa needed 26 from 24 balls, there was a small break. Rishabh Pant used intelligence to pause the game. He had his knee taped which helped to slow down the game. Later it helped to break the rhythm of the batters. That was one of the reasons for our victory. Pant used his smartness and things worked out in our favour," said Rohit.

During the high-octane Final, India were in early trouble after losing 3 quick wickets for 34 runs. It was then Virat Kohli who rose to the occasion and scored a crucial 76 runs and stitched a 72 runs partnership with Axar Patel who scored 47 runs.
