In a dramatic turn of events, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially shifted the venue for the IPL 2025 final from Kolkata’s iconic Eden Gardens to the grand Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The decision comes in light of weather concerns in the City of Joy, particularly a high chance of rain on the revised date — June 3.
According to the original IPL 2025 schedule, Eden Gardens was set to host the final on May 25. However, India-Pakistan geopolitical tensions forced a temporary halt in the tournament, pushing the schedule forward by a week. As a result, the summit clash is now slated for June 3, and with heavy rain predicted in Kolkata, the BCCI decided to move the final to a safer venue — the world’s largest cricket stadium in Ahmedabad.
As per a Cricbuzz report, the BCCI made the decision during a key meeting held on Tuesday. The reshuffling of venues doesn't stop at the final — Mullanpur in New Chandigarh is expected to host the first two playoff matches, including the Eliminator and Qualifier 1 on May 29 and 30, respectively. Ahmedabad, meanwhile, will also host Qualifier 2 on June 1 ahead of the big final.
The change of venue and dates adds another twist to an already eventful IPL season. While fans in Kolkata may be disappointed, the massive Narendra Modi Stadium promises a fitting stage for the league’s grand finale. All eyes will now be on Ahmedabad as it gears up to host IPL’s biggest night under clearer skies and in front of a record-breaking crowd.
