Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar has finally broken his silence over his prolonged absence from the Indian team, and his words have sparked fresh debates.
Speaking candidly during the UP T20 League, the 35-year-old hinted that selection is no longer in his control, a remark many believe is aimed at the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee.
Bhuvneshwar, who last played for India in the 2022 T20 World Cup semifinal, reflected on his situation with a mix of calm and subtle frustration. “Aapko iska uttar chayanakarta denge (Only the selectors can answer that),” he said. “My job is to give 100 percent on the field. Whether it’s the Mushtaq Ali, Ranji, or One-Day formats after the UP league, I’ll keep giving my best.”
With 294 international wickets across formats, 121 ODIs, 21 Tests, and 87 T20Is, Bhuvneshwar remains one of India’s most skillful swing bowlers. Despite questions over fitness post-2022, he has maintained a rigorous training routine and consistent domestic performances. “No matter how well you perform, sometimes luck doesn’t favour you,” he added.
When asked if Rajeev Shukla’s rise as BCCI President could help players from Uttar Pradesh, Bhuvi stayed diplomatic but firm: “Performance is paramount. Good cricket cannot be ignored for long.”
Currently leading the Lucknow Falcons, Bhuvneshwar’s performances in the UP T20 League and upcoming domestic season could reignite his hopes, especially with a crucial tour of Australia looming later this year.
