Former India international cricketer Dinesh Mongia has taken the mantle as the head coach of the Odisha cricket team.

As per the former southpaw, he has been impressed by Odisha Cricket Association’s (OCA) vision 2024 to make the State a top cricket team and he is quite up to the challenge.

“I cherish some good memory in Odisha. I have played one of my best innings against England here. I have talked with OCA secretary Sanjay Behera and I am quite impressed by OCA’s Vision 2024 to make Odisha one of the top cricket teams in India. I am ready to take up the challenge and work in this direction,” said Mongia.

As per the new head coach, Odisha has no dearth of talents. But the youngsters need to be groomed properly.

“We have seen players like Debashish Mohanty, SS Das and Sanjay Raul from Odisha representing India. In fact, Debashish has done so well for India. Odisha has no dearth of talents, but they need to be groomed, educated and guided properly for the big stage. Exceptional talents from any part of the State are always welcome by Odisha Cricket Association,” said Mongia.

Well, since last few years, not many international cricketers have completed their tenure as the head coach of the Odisha team.

Responding to the reports, Mongia said, “I am here not only to complete my tenure, but to produce some great results.”

Talking about his personal life, Mongia said though he is in politics and currently with BJP, his first choice is always cricket.

“Cricket is always my first love and I am not giving much time to politics these days. I was an international cricketer and now my job as a coach is to groom, guide and motivate players to the best of my abilities. It’s a great fun. I am looking forward to my role as the head coach of the Odisha team in the true spirit,” the former batter signed off.
