National Games 2023: Odisha weightlifters Jhilli Dalabehera & Sneha Soren bag bronze medals

Promising Odisha weightlifters Jhilli Dalabehera and Sneha Soren secured bronze medals in the 49kg and 55kg category of the women’s weightlifting events in the ongoing 37th National Games at the Campal Sports Village in Goa on Wednesday.

In the women’s 49kg category, former Asian Champion Jhilli lifted an impressive total weight of 167kg to finish third and bag the bronze medal. While Gyaneshwari Yadav from Chandigarh clinched the gold medal by lifting a total of 177 kg, Preeti of Haryana secured silver medal with a total lifting of 174 Kg.

Similarly in the women’s 55kg category, Sneha finished third with a total weightlifting of 186 kg to secure a bronze medal. While P Raninala Devi from Madhya Pradesh won a gold medal by lifting a total of 196 kg, Shrabani Das clinched a silver medal after lifting a total of 187kg.

Women’s Rugby 7s got underway in the event with top seeds Odisha women dominating Goa with a 52-0 win in the first match of Pool A. Odisha also got the better of Bihar 27-5 in their next match.

In the men’s category, Odisha edged past Kerala 15-12 to start with a victory. In another match, Odisha defeated Goa 14-5.
