After winning the fifth title of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni got emotional which is pretty rare for the fans. In the presentation ceremony, the Captain Cool also admitted that he had tears in his eyes after he heard his name being chanted by the crowd in the opening match of the IPL 2023 against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on March 31.

Nearly two months later, as CSK defeated GT in the season final to win their fifth IPL crown, Dhoni revealed he was emotional in the last phase of his career.

“The way they have shown their love and affection, I think that is something I need to do for them. You do get emotional simply because it’s the last part of my career. It started over here and the first game when I walked down everyone was chanting my name. My eyes were full of water and I just stood there in the dugout for a while,” said Dhoni.

“I realised I want to enjoy this. It was the same thing in Chennai. It was my last game over there but it will be good to come back and play whatever I can. I think they love me for what I am, they love that I am so grounded. I don’t try to portray something I’m not. Just keep it simple,” the veteran wicketkeeper-batsman added.
