MS Dhoni
The stands of M.A Chidambaram Stadium will be painted in yellow and fans are likely to see their favourite MS Dhoni back in action in the upcoming edition of IPL 2025. This comes into effect after the IPL governing council allowed all 10 franchises to retain up to 6 players during a meeting which was held in Bengaluru on Saturday.
It was a bitter moment to swallow for the fans in Chennai when Royal Challengers Bengaluru knocked CSK out of the IPL 2024 in a must-win clash which ended the dreams of numerous fans in yellow to see CSK lift the trophy and give a fitting ending to MS Dhoni who has been a great servant to the yellow franchise team.
IPL is all set to bring back a rule that it had instituted in 2008, allowing Indian players who had retired from international at least five years before going into the auction as an uncapped player.
As THALA was always in the scheme of things for CSK in their strategic plans of ideas, it is up to CSK to decide whether to retain Dhoni as an uncapped player or not.
As per the new rules, the franchise will be allowed to retain an uncapped for Rs 4 crore. Earlier, Dhoni was retained by CSK for Rs 12 crore during the IPL mega auction in 2022.
In IPL 2024, Dhoni had a good season with the bat as he scored 161 runs at an amazing strike rate of 220. However, Dhoni has remained tight-lipped over his future with CSK.
