Team India veteran pacer Mohammed Shami is currently grappling with injury and he is out of the Indian team. He is awaiting a fitness clearance from the National Cricket Academy (NCA) as he was recovering from his injury.

With BCCI likely to delay the squad announcement for Champions Trophy 2025 and the ODI series against England by a week, there is some good news for Shami.

As per reports, the veteran pacer is all likely to receive clearance from the Sports Science wing of the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence. He is expected to feature in both the ODI series against England and in the Champions Trophy 2025. However, it is highly unlikely that he will be included in the side for the T20Is against England.

Notably, Shami went under surgery in 2024 after carrying an ankle injury throughout the ODI World Cup. He then began his recovery at the NCA and made his return to domestic cricket in the Ranji Trophy. Subsequently, he played the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and was then rested for the opening round matches of VHT.

With Team India’s premium pacer Jasprit Bumrah currently nursing an injury, Shami’s role in the Indian team will be more important in the crucial events. He is most likely to take the mantle of the strike bowler for India.
