After scoring his first ODI century that helped India win the third game and clinch the series 2-1 against South Africa, Sanju Samson revealed how the past three to four months had been very challenging for him.

Despite having an average of over 50 with a strike rate of 104 in 13 games, Samson has often been sidelined in the Indian team.  He was even overlooked in the ICC World Cup 2023.

Sanju stated, "The last three to four months were challenging for me mentally. So going through all that and coming here I think doing what I did today, I think I feel really happy and grateful."

After making his T20 debut in 2015, Samson had to wait for almost six years to get an opportunity for India. Life has been very tough for Samson as he was very demoralised after getting snubbed in the Asian Games 2023 which India won under Ruturaj Gaikwad.

"I have blessed in my genes. Since my father is an athlete as well. I believe there's always a way to overcome obstacles and get back up again. Consider how much you can improve and how you can come back stronger,” he added.

Sanju Samson’s gritty knock of 108 helped India win the ODI series 2-1 for the second time. The previous time India beat South Africa 5-1 was way back in 2018. Virat Kohli won 'Man of the Series' award for scoring 558 runs in six games.
