Legendary cricketer and former World Cup-winning India skipper Kapil Dev has termed MS Dhoni as the greatest cricketer of India.

Heaping praise on the ‘Captain Cool’ in a television interview, the former legendary all-rounder said that no cricketer better than Dhoni has been produced yet.

“Had he wished, he would have been playing Test cricket for India till now. However, after playing 90 Tests, he decided to give chances to the youngsters,” said Kapil.

“It’s a great thing for a cricketer. If you want to give opportunities to youngsters by forsaking your passion, you become a great cricketer in the process. I think Dhoni did that and hats off to him,” Kapil added.

Notably after taking retirement from cricket, Dhoni is now playing only in the Indian Premier League (IPL). In the current edition of the cash-rich league, Dhoni is leading the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by example. Under the leadership of Dhoni, CSK have played 199 matches and won 127 of those games. Playing for CSK, Dhoni has scored 5,018 runs. Dhoni has led CSK to nine IPL finals and under his leadership the team has won four titles so far.

Under Dhoni’s captaincy, India have won the 2007 ICC World Twenty20, the 2011 Cricket World Cup, and the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy, the most by any captain. He also led India to victory in the 2010 and 2016 Asia Cups.
