Jasprit Bumrah breaks silence on Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya controversy over MI captaincy
India’s bowling magician played a crucial role in the historic triumph against South Africa in the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2024. Despite repeated trolling and personal tragedies, Bumrah emerged as one of the greatest contributors to the team.
He attributed his success to his captain and Hitman Rohit Sharma. Jasprit Bumrah said, “When I came into cricket, I didn't know a lot - when I started playing IPL - I used to go & tell Rohit Sharma 'you set the field, I don't know. I am going to bowl this ball, you set the field & I trust you, whatever the field right you set the field' - then slowly I realised I can't be overly dependent on others then I started learning the craft.”
He further added, “In the recent England series, when the youngsters came - Rohit made the atmosphere very comfortable, he took extra effort, he will take them out, he will talk to them about the game, he will try & push them to take the responsibility as the youngsters should think all are equally important, there is no senior – junior.”

Bumrah also opened up on Hardik Pandya receiving unnecessary hate and booing from fans during IPL 2024. The star pacer stated that India is an emotion-driven country and both fans and players get emotional. He stated that a player can only shut the door by focusing on himself and performing well.
He also opened up on division in Mumbai Indians (MI) after Hardik Pandya replaced Rohit Sharma as the skipper and said, “It’s us against the world, we were trying to help.”
“We as a team do not encourage booing and that. We as a team were with him. We were talking to him. His family will always be there. Certain things are beyond our control. Even the best players in the world face all these things. It’s a part of a sportman’s journey,” Bumrah stated.
