PUBLISHED: LAST UPDATE:

Now, question mark is being raised whether captaincy has affected Suryakumar’s batting form in T20Is. Though SKY has excelled as a captain, his poor batting form has become a serious matter of concern for India.

Suryakumar Yadav

India’s Mr 360 degree batsman Suryakumar Yadav was the premier performer for the Men in Blue in the shortest format of the game.

SKY (as Suryakumar is popularly known) was in the form of his life, scoring 1164 runs in 31 matches at a blistering strike rate in the last season. He notched up nine fifties and two centuries, making it the best T20 year by any Indian batter.

However, Suryakumar is currently going through the horrible form of his life. In the South Africa series, SKY managed just 26 runs in three matches, with a highest score of 21. This was followed by a disappointing show against England at home. He managed to score only 28 runs in five matches, including two ducks, with a highest score of only 14.

Now, question mark is being raised whether captaincy has affected Suryakumar’s batting form in T20Is. Though SKY has excelled as a captain, his poor batting form has become a serious matter of concern for India.

As per many experts, SKY might be facing a period of adjustment. Captaincy demands a shift in mindset—thinking about the team before oneself, planning strategies, and taking responsibility for every decision on the field. It can be mentally exhausting, and even a naturally aggressive batter like SKY might need time to find the right balance between leadership and individual performance.
