Odisha cricketer Subhranshu Senapati was brought by Chennai Super Kings for his base price of Rs 20 lakh in the ongoing mega auction of the Indian Premier League 2022 on Sunday.

The major development brings in much cheer for cricket lovers in Odisha and the Odisha Cricket Association because it is an end to a long wait for the inclusion of a cricketer from the State in the most popular cash-rich cricket league.

Subhranshu has been the most prolific batter for Odisha in the Ranji Trophy, the country's premier domestic cricket tournament. He was the leading run scorer for Odisha in 2017-18 and 2018-19 Ranji season. Apart from that, Subhranshu is also a dependable bowler and quick fielder which make him a good package in cricketing terms.

The Odisha Cricket Association has also recently named him as the skipper of this year's Ranji team from the State.

Speaking on Subhranshu's addition into the CSK camp, cricket analyst Sambit Mahapatra said it will be a big step for not only Subhranshu, but for the Odisha cricket.

It is being said that Subhranshu impressed the CSK camp, especially Mahendra Singh Dhoni when asked to perform under nets.

"Subhranshu will remain in the 25 member squad of the CSK who are the defending champions and if he gives good performance during practice matches, it will help him break into the probables of the playing eleven," said Mahapatra.

At the peak of his career, this will be a golden opportunity for the 25-year-old Subhranshu to learn valuable experience with world-class players and legends of the game that CSK boasts, added the cricket analyst.

It will also help him come under the eye of the national selectors for the Indian team because there have been scores of examples how good performers from the IPL have made it to the national team, said Mohapatra.

Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings extended a warm welcome to the Odisha cricketer through a social media post. "The Yellove Odyssey begins for Senapati," the franchise wrote on Facebook.

Notably, Halhadar Das was the first cricketer from Odisha to make IPL debut playing for Deccan Chargers in the 2008 edition of the IPL. Four years later, all-rounder, Biplab Samantaray was also brought by the same franchise.
