Chahal takes hat-trick to keep CSK to 190
Veteran leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal turned the tide for Punjab Kings with a game-changing spell, claiming his second hat-trick in IPL career against Chennai Super Kings at the iconic MA Chidambaram Stadium on Tuesday. Despite an explosive batting show from CSK, Chahal’s late blitz ensured the hosts were restricted to a manageable total of 190.
Coming in when CSK looked poised to breach the 200-run mark, Chahal delivered a sensational over that sent Deepak Hooda (2), Anshul Kamboj, and Noor Ahmad back to the pavilion in quick succession. His mastery with flight and variation proved too much for the lower order as he secured his second hat-trick of the season.
Chahal’s first IPL hat-trick came back in 2022 when he represented the Rajasthan Royals. On that occasion, he dismissed Shreyas Iyer, Pat Cummins, and Shivam Mavi in a match-winning effort against Kolkata Knight Riders.

Earlier, CSK made a fiery start after being put in to bat. Sam Curran led the charge with a blistering 88 off 47 balls, anchoring the innings with power and poise. Youngster Dewald Brevis added 32 runs, providing much-needed support through the middle overs. However, Chahal’s late intervention brought Punjab right back into the contest.
With this feat, Chahal joins an elite list of bowlers in IPL history to have taken multiple hat-tricks. Only Amit Mishra, with three (2008, 2011, 2013), has more. Other notable names include Yuvraj Singh (2 in 2009), Rashid Khan, and even Rohit Sharma, who achieved it once in his early years.
Punjab Kings now face a crucial chase, needing to win to stay alive in the race for the IPL 2025 playoffs. With Chahal peaking at the right time, all eyes will be on their batting line-up to see if they can match the magic with the bat.
