Rohit Sharma
Mumbai Indians veteran batter Rohit Sharma has struggled with his form in the ongoing IPL 2025, failing to make a significant impact at the top of the order. In four matches, he has garnered just 38 runs at a poor average of 9.5, with a highest score of 17 so far.
In response, former India great Sunil Gavaskar has stated that Rohit’s dismissal during the powerplay is a setback for Mumbai Indians and that the opener’s shot selection requires some refinement.
According to Gavaskar, Mumbai Indians will be looking forward to a strong performance from Rohit in their upcoming matches. The former India captain stated that even if Rohit does not immediately score a big total, MI would like him to bat through the powerplay and get a steady 30 or 40 runs.

"In the upcoming games, Mubai Indians will be hoping for a solid innings from Rohit. Even if he doesn’t manage a huge score right away, scoring a steady 30-40 runs will go a long way in boosting his confidence," said Gavaskar in a recent interaction.
The former India great believes that when Rohit is dismissed during the powerplay, it affects the team he plays for. He feels that Rohit has so much to offer, but his shot selection needs to be more measured. Gavaskar further stressed that while Rohit needs to maintain his aggression, he must choose the right risks to take.
"Rohit can be impactful, whether it’s for MI, India, or any team he’s playing for, especially when he’s out there during the powerplay. He has potential to contribute. However, his shot selection needs refinement. While it’s important to be aggressive and make the most of the first six overs, choosing the right shots is crucial. If he can strike the right balance, we’ll see him scoring runs again," said Gavaskar.
