As Chennai Super Kings (CSK) find themselves in unfamiliar territory at the bottom of the IPL 2025 table, pressure is mounting on some of their senior players and none more so than Ravindra Jadeja. The 35-year-old all-rounder has faced sharp criticism for his sluggish batting in CSK’s recent loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad, particularly from former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag.
Jadeja, long hailed for his all-round brilliance and match-winning prowess, has struggled to find rhythm with the bat this season. While he did deliver a vintage knock of 53 against the Mumbai Indians, that spark quickly fizzled out. In the match against SRH, Jadeja crawled to 17 off 21 deliveries, a performance that drew the ire of Sehwag.
“If Jadeja is coming up the order, his strike rate is useless,” Sehwag lashed out during a post-match analysis. “At the very least, he should hold one end till the 15th-18th over so the rest of the team can bat around him.”
Chennai could only muster 154 runs before being bowled out, with Ayush Mhatre (30) and Dewald Brevis (42) the only notable contributors. SRH’s bowling attack, led by Harshal Patel’s impressive four-wicket haul, dismantled the CSK batting lineup with clinical precision, marking Chennai’s fourth consecutive defeat at Chepauk.
Sehwag also questioned CSK’s overall approach with the bat, calling for more accountability from senior players. “Brevis was doing the job, but someone has to take charge when he gets out,” he added.
With playoff hopes dashed, CSK now face an uphill battle, not for qualification, but for redemption. They have five games remaining in the season, and fans are eager to see how MS Dhoni rallies his squad amid mounting criticism and dwindling morale.
Can the Super Kings finish strong and restore pride in yellow? Or will this be remembered as one of the franchise’s most forgettable campaigns?a
