Vaibhav Suryavanshi
At 14, Vaibhav Suryavanshi becomes the youngest batsman to score a century in the Indian Premier League (IPL), marking a record-breaking achievement on the cricket field. In just three matches, this prodigious talent has already made his mark against seasoned international bowlers such as Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, and Rashid Khan.
Vaibhav stunned audiences by hitting a 35-ball century against the Gujarat Titans, a feat that positions him as the youngest and fastest Indian to reach such a milestone in the IPL. Not only does this achievement make him the youngest male player to score a T20 century, but the sheer audacity of his play style is notable. From the first delivery he faced, Vaibhav swung into action with a six off Shardul Thakur and went on to amass 11 sixes during his knock.
Speaking with IPLT20.com, Vaibhav shared, "It was a normal thing for me. I have played Under-19 for India and also at the domestic level, where I have hit first ball sixes. I was not under pressure to play out the first 10 balls. In my mind I was clear that if the ball comes in my radar, I will hit it."
Born in Samastipur, Bihar, Vaibhav’s rise has been meteoric considering he was born three years after the IPL began. His remarkable 101 off 38 balls was crucial in leading the Rajasthan Royals to chase down 210 in just 15.5 overs. Of his total runs, 94 came from boundaries, underscoring his efficiency and power.

Vaibhav attributes much of his success to his parents, recognising their sacrifices. "I owe everything to my parents. My mother, for my practice schedule, wakes up at 3 in the morning after going to sleep at 11, barely sleeping for three hours. She then prepares my meals," he said. His father, too, prioritised Vaibhav’s cricket, leaving his job to support his son’s ambitions.
Amidst growing attention, Vaibhav remains focused on the bigger picture—representing India at the national level. "I want to contribute for India and I have to work hard for that," he expressed, showing gratitude for the support from Rajasthan Royals’ management and his engagements with head coach Rahul Dravid.
Vaibhav’s journey in the IPL is just beginning, yet his determination and form suggest a promising career ahead.
