IPL 2025: RR’s Riyan Parag joins elite club; here's how

PUBLISHED: LAST UPDATE:

Though his valiant effort couldn’t guide his team to victory, Parag's stunning knock captured the attention of fans and legends alike.

Riyan Parag

In a high-octane clash at Eden Gardens, Rajasthan Royals’ stand-in skipper Riyan Parag lit up the night sky with a blistering 95 off just 45 balls against Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2025. Though his valiant effort couldn’t guide his team to victory, Parag's stunning knock captured the attention of fans and legends alike.

Five Sixes in One Over: Moeen Ali's Nightmare

One of the biggest highlights of Parag’s innings came in the 13th over, when he launched a furious assault on England veteran all-rounder Moeen Ali, smashing five consecutive sixes. Moeen had no answers as Parag sent deliveries sailing over both long-on and deep midwicket. Adding to the carnage, Parag also sent a maximum off Varun Chakaravarthy, making it six sixes in a span of six balls.

A Tweet Turned Prophecy

In a moment of poetic justice, Parag’s fireworks fulfilled a two-year-old prophecy. Back in 2023, he had tweeted: “My inner conscience says I'm hitting 4 sixes in an over at some point this IPL.” He didn’t just meet the benchmark — he shattered it, delivering five in a single over.

A Rare Feat Among Legends

While no batter has yet hit six sixes in a single over in IPL history, Parag now joins the ranks of cricketers who have come closest. In international T20s, legends like Yuvraj Singh, Kieron Pollard, and Dipendra Singh Airee have achieved the rare six-in-six feat. Notably, Yuvraj did it against Stuart Broad in the 2007 T20 World Cup — a moment etched in cricketing history.
