LSG IPL 2024 Squad
The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) face a bowling crisis ahead of their IPL 2025 opener against the Delhi Capitals (DC) in Visakhapatnam this evening, with injuries sidelining four key pacers.
In the latest damage, speedster Mayank Yadav, known for his 150kph deliveries, suffered a fresh setback during recovery after hitting his toe with the side of a bed, delaying his return until the tournament’s final week.
Mayank, who impressed last season with back-to-back Player-of-the-Match performances, was rehabilitating a back injury at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) when a toe infection further derailed his progress.
LSG Head coach Justin Langer confirmed that the pacer’s availability is now limited to the season’s latter stages. Meanwhile, Mohsin Khan has been ruled out entirely, replaced by all-rounder Shardul Thakur.
Avesh Khan (knee niggle) and Akash Deep (back injury) are also sidelined but nearing fitness, with the latter having reportedly cleared his yo-yo test and is bowling at 90% capacity, but the former’s return hinging on NCA clearance.
With LSG’s pace attack crippled, Langer acknowledged the need to adapt strategies. The team is likely to lean on an inexperienced Indian bowling unit, including Arshin Kulkarni and Hangrekar, alongside Shardul.
Today’s match will mark Rishabh Pant’s debut as LSG captain, following his record Rs 27 crore acquisition. As such, his leadership skills will be tested against DC, his former team, in the absence of frontline bowlers.
Regardless, LSG’s campaign now hinges on makeshift plans and timely recoveries. Yet, while Mayank’s toe injury adds to their woes, Langer remains hopeful his pace spearhead will bolster the attack during the playoffs.
