Veteran batsman Ambati Rayudu was a star batsman for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. He was an integral part of the yellow brigade. However, he announced his retirement after IPL 2023 final and now the franchise has to find an able replacement for him.

Meanwhile, veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who played for CSK between 2008 and 2015, feels that there are quite a few candidates that the franchise could look for to play in the crucial no.4 position.

Moreover, Ashwin has a strong feeling that CSK will invest it on veteran batsman Karun Nair.

“CSK is searching for a replacement for Rayudu. Explosive batsman Shahrukh Khan (who was surprisingly released by the Punjab Kings ahead of the 2024 auction) is not a replacement for Rayudu at No.4. I have no idea who they are going to play in that position this season,” said Ashwin on his official YouTube channel.

“They might try a left-hand option but if you look at CSK’s track record, they have never gone for an unknown commodity. They have never played anybody who just did well in their first season of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. So Karun Nair, folks, brace yourself to see him in yellow. I am not committing to anything, just doing a little Ravi Shastri impression,” the veteran spinner added.

Notably, Nair remains best known for the unbeaten 303 that he scored in a Test against England at the Chepauk Stadium in December 2016. However, he was strangely excluded from the Indian team.
