In a good news for cricket lovers, the iconic Barabati Stadium in Cuttack may host a match of the upcoming cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) featuring Delhi Capitals.

As per reports, IPL franchise Delhi Capitals is likely to play their first two IPL matches in Pune and Cuttack as Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium will not be ready to host the tournament just days after hosting the Women’s Premier League final match.

Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) has confirmed that the venue won’t be ready for at least 10 days. Hence, Delhi will be homeless for the opening two rounds.

As per reports in some sections of the media, DDCA has written to the BCCI about the unavailability of the venue for the opening two games of IPL 2024.

“Delhi’s first two games will be moved to Pune and Cuttack. We have informed the BCCI about it,” the reports quoted a DDCA official as saying.

BCCI will release partial IPL 2024 schedule on Thursday. The mega event will tentatively start between March 20-22.

Notably, Delhi will host 11 matches of the Women’s Premier League in just 13 days. Arun Jaitley Stadium will host WPL 2024 from March 5 to March 17, allowing only a week for IPL 2024. DDCA expects the first match of Delhi Capitals on March 24. Hence, it’s too short a window for the venue to be ready.
