Captain Cool MS Dhoni is likely to lead Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2024. However, the one perennial question that has troubled the Yellow Brigade throughout, at least for the last 10 years as head coach Stephen Fleming put it as is who could replace MS Dhoni as their next skipper.

CSK made an effort in that direction when they had announced star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja as the skipper of the team in 2022, on the eve of their opening game. However, the five-time champions had sunk to the bottom of the table with just one win from the first seven matches. Subsequently, Dhoni was compelled to take over the role yet again. The legend later guided CSK to a title win in 2023 when they beat Gujarat Titans in the rain-affected final in Ahmedabad.

After IPL 2024 auction, Fleming opened up on plans to replace Dhoni as the captain of CSK.

“We have had succession plans for MS for about 10 years. It is going to be a talking point. But he is as engaged and as enthusiastic as I have seen him for a while. While that passion is there for the team and franchise, we’ll roll on,” said Fleming.

Notably, CSK acquired the likes of Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell and Shardul Thakur in IPL 2024 auction.
