Right-arm fast bowler Sandeep Warrier has been named as the replacement for speedster Jasprit Bumrah in Mumbai Indians team for the much-awaited Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 starting today.

“Sandeep Warrier, right arm fast bowler will join the Mumbai Indians squad as a replacement player for Jasprit Bumrah,” Mumbai Indians said in a press statement on Friday.

The 31-year-old has played a single T20I for the Men in Blue. However, he is an experienced player in the domestic circuit having played over 200 games. He has so far taken 362 wickets in his career across formats.

The right-arm pacer will join the Mumbai Indians squad ahead of their IPL 2023 opener against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Earlier, he was a part of the Kolkata Knight Riders squad in the last edition of the cash-rich league.

Notably, unorthodox speedster Bumrah has recently undergone successful back surgery in Christchurch. He was out of action since September last year due to a back injury. India’s bowling mainstay Bumrah had missed the Asia Cup 2022, T20 World Cup 2022, and the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia.

As per BCCI sources, Bumrah’s recovery will take 24 weeks maximum and he is likely to hit the nets by August.
