Though England batsman Jonny Bairstow was not able to perform to the best of his abilities with the bat for Punjab Kings against Lucknow Super Giants in a crucial tie of the ongoing IPL on Friday, he was a livewire on the field.

His superlative fielding efforts on the ground helped his team restrict the opposition to 153/8. The experienced cricketer effected a brilliant run-out with a lightning direct hit from deep square leg to send a well set Deepak Hooda packing at the MCA Stadium in Pune.

Krunal Pandya pulled the ball in front of square off Arshdeep Singh and was eager for two runs. Hooda was slightly slow on the turn and Bairstow was fully alert to the situation. He collected the ball with elan by running to his right from the deep square leg and fired in a rocket throw to the non-striker’s end that hit the stumps with Hooda falling well short of the crease.

Hooda (34, 28b, 1x4, 2x6) had to depart after a brilliant start because of the lightning throw. The wicket was part of a major collapse for the LSG batting line-up, as they lost five wickets for a meagre 13 runs in the process.

However in the end, the score was enough for Lucknow Super Giants to register a convincing 20-run win in a slow pitch.
