Gujarat Titans are getting themselves ready for Indian Premier League (IPL) debut. Amid high expectations from fans, coach Ashish Nehra is confident that the team will do well in the main event.

The former India left hand pacer is excited over the fast bowling unit of his team which has the likes of Lockie Ferguson, Alzarri Joseph, Yash Dayal, Mohammed Shami and Varun Aaron.

“We have a great team combination which is very important. I have always believed in Shami. People might be saying that Shami is not very impressive in white-ball format. But numbers in the T20 format don't count much. It’s all about using a player at a crucial juncture of the game,” said Nehra.

The former swing bowler compared veteran Shami with Jasprit Bumrah.

“I keep Shami absolutely on par with Bumrah. Shami’s economy rate could be a bit higher than Bumrah in white-ball cricket. However, Shami is always a wicket-taker and his strike rate is always brilliant. When you have somebody like Shami’s brilliance and experience, you cannot ask for anything better,” said Nehra.

The titans will start their IPL campaign against the other debutant Lucknow Super Giants on Monday.
