Vaibhav Suryavanshi
Rising star Vaibhav Suryavanshi is already setting his sights on a new milestone just moments after etching his name into the Youth ODI record books.
During the fourth U19 ODI against England in Worcester, the 14-year-old produced a breathtaking knock, reaching his century in just 52 balls — the fastest ever in Youth ODI history. He surpassed the previous record of 53 balls held by Pakistan’s Kamran Ghulam.
Following his remarkable performance, Vaibhav expressed his desire to go even further. He revealed that he’s aiming to become the first-ever player to score a double century in Youth ODIs, taking inspiration from India captain Shubman Gill’s exploits in the ongoing Test series.
Shubman had delivered a masterclass at Edgbaston, scoring 269 and 161 in the two innings of the second Test against England, putting India firmly in control of the match.
“I didn’t even realize I had broken the record,” Vaibhav said after the match. “I was really inspired by Shubman Gill when he scored his 100 and 200. He stayed focused and kept building on his innings.”
Reflecting on his own knock, Vaibhav added, “I could’ve batted longer. There were still 20 overs left. I got out trying a shot I didn’t execute properly, but I wanted to bat deep like him.”

Keeping his composure despite the historic feat, Vaibhav said, “There’s no big celebration. I’m just happy to have contributed to the team. Now, my next goal is to score 200 and bat through the full 50 overs.”
So far, no player has ever scored a double century in Youth ODIs, with the current record being 191 by Sri Lanka’s Hasitha Boyagoda.
