India vs Pakistan
The highly anticipated India-Pakistan clash may not take place when cricket makes its Olympic return at the 2028 Los Angeles Games. The International Cricket Council (ICC) is considering a regional qualification system that could potentially leave Pakistan out of the tournament, much to the disappointment of fans eager to witness the fierce rivalry on the Olympic stage.
Cricket is set to rejoin the Olympics after a 128-year absence, with both men's and women's T20 competitions featuring six teams each. While excitement is building, the proposed qualification system is stirring debate. Instead of relying on global rankings, the ICC may select teams based on continental representation.
Under this model, the top T20I teams from Asia, Europe, Oceania, and Africa would earn automatic spots. The United States, as the host nation, would represent the Americas. That leaves only one remaining slot, with its allocation still undecided.
Currently, India is the highest-ranked T20I team in Asia and is expected to claim that spot. Pakistan, ranked 8th compared to India’s top ranking as of August 2025, may miss out under this regional format.
