Fans across the globe are excited for the upcoming high-voltage clash between arch-rivals India and Pakistan in the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on February 23.
Though many experts are of the opinion that India are the favourites for the high-octane clash, former player India great Sunil Gavaskar refused to rule out the possibility of Pakistan winning, considering the nature of the format.
“Anything can happen, as you need one player to change the game. Pakistan have several players who can do that. It is wrong to say that India is the outright favourite,” said Gavaskar during a recent interaction.

“India has all-around strength so that they will start as favourites. Pakistan would be under more pressure than India, having lost to New Zealand. This is one tournament where Pakistan scored over India, and they are looking forward to carrying that record forward,” he added.
India started the tournament well with a convincing 6-wicket win over Bangladesh. However, New Zealand defeated the Mohammed Rizwan-led team by 60 runs.
Pakistan desperately need a victory to keep their semi-final hopes alive. On the other hand, if Rohit Sharma’s team goes past the neighbouring country, the road to the knockouts will become easier.
Meanwhile, speculation is rife among several fans that veteran batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli may announce their retirement from international cricket after the completion of the Champions Trophy. While Rohit has managed to get back his form, Kohli is still struggling with the bat.
