Ind Vs Pak Asia Cup 2025: Former Pakistan bowler makes bold statement ahead of high octane clash

PUBLISHED: LAST UPDATE:

Former Pakistan pacer Aqib Javed backs Pakistan's T20 team to beat India in the Asia Cup 2025, despite India's dominant historical record. The match is set for September 14 in Dubai.

Asia Cup 2025

With the much-anticipated India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2025 clash around the corner, former Pakistan pacer and current selector Aqib Javed has made a bold statement, backing Pakistan’s chances of victory. Speaking at a media conference, Javed said, “Pakistan’s T20 team can beat India. This 17-member squad can defeat any team. We shouldn’t put pressure on them, but I have high hopes.”

Historical Record Favours India

While Javed exudes confidence, the numbers tell another story. Out of 13 T20I encounters, India have dominated with nine wins, while Pakistan managed just three. One match ended in a tie, famously decided by a bowl-out in India’s favor at the 2007 T20 World Cup. Pakistan’s most recent win came in the 2022 Asia Cup Super Four in Dubai, where they chased 182 with one ball to spare.

Spotlight on Babar and Rizwan

Javed also addressed the possible T20 comeback of Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, both of whom haven’t played the format in 2025 so far. He stressed that Pakistan’s selection is performance-driven, citing examples of Sahibzada Farhan, Saim Ayub, and Fakhar Zaman making impactful returns after setbacks.
“Opportunities are always there. Whoever performs will play,” Javed remarked.

The Road Ahead

The Asia Cup 2025 begins on September 9 in Dubai. Pakistan’s first outing is against Oman on September 12, followed by the blockbuster clash against India on September 14 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Cricket fans worldwide are bracing for yet another high-voltage encounter between the arch-rivals.
