Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant, the dynamic Indian cricketer, has faced a challenging journey since his anticipated return to the sport in March 2024. After a lengthy 15-month break due to injury, questions regarding his readiness to endure the rigorous demands of international cricket, particularly his wicketkeeping duties, loomed large.

Triumphant IPL Comeback

Demonstrating resilience, Pant made a stunning comeback in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 with the Delhi Capitals. Accumulating 446 runs, and leading his team as top scorer with an impressive strike rate of 155.40, he firmly silenced sceptics.

Mixed Performances for National Side

Buoyed by his IPL triumph, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) reinstated him to the national squad. Pant played a role in India's victory at the T20 World Cup 2024, although his performances fell short of expectations.

In Test cricket, his more preferred format, Pant initially made waves with significant contributions, including a century against Bangladesh followed by three half-centuries. Yet, his stint in Australia proved lacklustre, amassing only one fifty and 255 runs at a modest average of 28.33.

Battles Continued in IPL 2025

Despite his active presence in 10 Tests during the 2024-25 season, his form remained inconsistent. With KL Rahul rising as India's favoured wicketkeeper in One Day Internationals (ODIs), Pant's difficulties solidifying a permanent spot were evident. His performance with the Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2025 was similarly disappointing, marred by an uncommon fifty against Chennai Super Kings.

Question on Confidence & Future Prospects

Pant's decision to allow teammate Ayush Badoni to bat ahead of him suggests a crisis of confidence. Nevertheless, his inherent talent remains unquestionable, with supporters and selectors alike optimistic for his resurgence.

As the Indian team prepares for the forthcoming Test series against England, the BCCI closely watches Pant’s progress, recognising his historical success against the English side.

India is keenly aware of Pant’s potential to reinstate its cricketing dominance. Known for his aggressive playing style, Pant’s performance is seen as key to not only elevating his personal scores but creating opportunities for the entire team. As pivotal matches loom, Pant holds the promise of aiding India's cricket resurgence post-recent home losses.
