Former India coach Ravi Shastri has urged the Indian cricket team to manage Jasprit Bumrah's workload carefully during the forthcoming Test series in England. Following the conclusion of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, India is set to play a five-match Test series in the UK, beginning in late June.

Bumrah's Recent Injury Concerns

Bumrah sustained an injury during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, resulting in his absence from the Champions Trophy. He returned to play in IPL 2025, but Shastri believes caution is needed as the pacer rejoins the Test side.

In a discussion on the International Cricket Council (ICC) Review, Shastri suggested that Bumrah participate in four of the five Tests to allow for adequate rest. "I would be very, very careful with Bumrah. I would give him two Tests at a time and then wait for the break. Ideally, make him play four. You’ll be tempted to make him play five if he starts in a great manner, but it’s how his body pulls up," Shastri expounded.

Past Utilisation and Injury

Previously the most utilised bowler in the Indian squad, Bumrah faced a lower back injury during the fifth Test against Australia in Sydney. This led to his exclusion from the Champions Trophy 2025, although he returned to the field for IPL 2025 in April.

Shastri advocates that Bumrah should have the autonomy to decide when a break is necessary. "He should be given the first opportunity to say, ‘Yes, a little, I am feeling the niggle. A break would help.’ Give him that break," Shastri emphasised.

An Impressive Pace Attack

Shastri also highlighted the prospect of a formidable Indian pace attack, comprising Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, and Jasprit Bumrah, to challenge England. "I think with Siraj, Jasprit and Mohammed Shami, these three, if they are fully fit, they will give England heaps of problems. It’s a quality, top-class pace attack when you get these three fit," he stated.
