Ind vs Eng: Former India great backs Nitish Reddy's all-round potential

Former India great Anil Kumble backed the youngster to become a long-term asset for India.

Nitish Kumar Reddy gave India the breakthrough

Former India captain Anil Kumble was pretty much impressed with young all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy’s bowling performance in the Lord’s Test against England. Kumble feels that the young all-rounder deserves an extended run in the Test side.

The 22-year-old from Hyderabad provided India with crucial breakthroughs, dismissing both England openers, and that too in his very first over on the first day of the ongoing third Test against England.

The former India great backed the youngster to become a long-term asset for India.

"I thought he (Nitish) did quite well in Australia — got a hundred with the bat and bowled decently, even if he didn’t take many wickets. What you need from someone like him is to break partnerships and give the fast bowlers a breather while still maintaining control. He bowled nearly 14 overs in a spell — that shows his fitness and control," said Kumble in a recent interaction.

" He’s young, he’s a capable batter with a century under his belt, and he’s a sharp fielder. India should persist with him and avoid the temptation to chop and change," the former leggie added.
