Ind Vs Eng 4th Test Day 5: Shubman Gill’s redemption century fuels India’s fightback in Manchester

PUBLISHED: LAST UPDATE:

Shubman Gill silenced critics with an unbeaten century on Day 5 against England, nearing Sunil Gavaskar's record, as India fights to salvage the Test at Old Trafford.

Shubman Gill

Come the hour, come the man, Shubman Gill has answered the call. After facing heavy criticism for a poor outing at Lord’s, the young Indian Test captain bounced back in style, crafting a gritty, unbeaten century on Day 5 of the high-stakes Test against England.

With the pitch showing uneven bounce and swing on offer, Gill displayed remarkable composure, silencing doubters and reviving India’s hopes of salvaging a result.

Milestones and a Touch of History

In the process of anchoring India’s second innings, Gill crossed 700 runs as Test captain, inching closer to a historic landmark. He now stands just 74 runs behind Sunil Gavaskar’s iconic tally of 774 runs, scored during the legendary 1971 tour of the West Indies. At just 24, Gill seems poised to etch his name alongside the greats, provided he continues this form.

A Setback, Then Stability

India suffered a setback with the dismissal of KL Rahul on 90, who once again proved his mettle in tough conditions. His composed knock reminded fans why he’s considered India’s crisis man. With Rahul and GIll gone, Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja at the crease.

Currently, India stands at 224-4, with their captain Gill out after scoring 103.

Final Day Drama Awaits

Will India’s determination be enough to force a draw and deny England a series-clinching victory? Or will England’s fiery attack strike gold on the final day?

Only time will tell, but for now, the stage is set for an enthralling finish at Old Trafford.
