Southpaw batter Yashasvi Jaiswal’s controversial dismissal on Day five of the Boxing Day Test between India and Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground proved crucial as the hosts registered a resounding victory of 184-run.

When India were struggling after the fall of seven wickets, Jaiswal attempted a hook shot off Pat Cummins’ bowling. The on-field umpire initially ruled not out. However, replays indicated that the ball may have touched Jaiswal’s gloves before reaching wicketkeeper Alex Carey.

Though Snicko technology did not provide conclusive evidence for the third umpire to overturn the on-field decision, a side-on angle suggested that Jaiswal’s right index finger made contact with the ball. The umpire subsequently gave him out, much to the disappointment of the Indian camp.

In response, Team India captain Rohit Sharma said that India is consistently on the wrong side of contentious video reviews, including the match-turning dismissal of Jaiswal.

“Really, I don’t know what to make of that because the technology didn’t show anything. I feel we’ve been a little bit unfortunate. I don’t know how the umpires want to use the technology. It’s about the technology which we all know is not 100 per cent. We don’t really want to look too much into that,” said Rohit.

“It’s just that more often than not, we are the ones falling on the wrong side of it,” he added.
