After cricket lovers and former cricketers took exception to ticket price hike for the India-England ODI match to be played at Barabati Stadium on February 9, 2025, the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) on Tuesday announced a cut in the prices of tickets.
As per the media release from the OCA, the ticket rates for the match were revised as per the recommendation of the Minister of Sports and Youth Services, Suryabanshi Suraj. The Minister attended a preparatory meeting for the upcoming ODI match and a decision on the revision of rates was taken at the meeting.
The preparatory meeting was attended by representatives from all concerned departments of the Government of Odisha and key stakeholders involved in the event's organization and coordination.
As per the OCA media release, "The meeting was convened to review the preparations for this prestigious international cricket match and ensure seamless coordination between various agencies for its successful execution. In-depth discussions took place on key aspects related to security, transportation, crowd management, hospitality, infrastructure readiness, and branding opportunities."
The Barabati Stadium in the Cuttack last witnessed a One-Day International cricket match on December 22, 2019. It was played between India and West Indies. Since an ODI has returned to the stadium after a long gap, cricket fans are very excited. However, the hike in ticket prices announced by the OCA earlier left them dejected.
Commenting on the ticket price hike, OCA secretary, Sanjay Behera had justified the price hike, saying the increase in ancillary expenses forced them to do so.
