Former vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane backs Yashasvi Jaiswal for success in the upcoming India-England Test series, praising his adaptability and skill set. Ajinkya Rahane

As India gears up for its high-stakes five-match Test series in England starting this Friday at Headingley, former vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane has thrown his weight behind rising star Yashasvi Jaiswal, praising his temperament and skill set to succeed in challenging English conditions. Despite whispers of a rift between the two earlier this year, Rahane’s latest remarks show admiration and belief in the young batter’s abilities.

Jaiswal: The Man for the Job

In a recent video on his YouTube channel, Rahane praised Jaiswal’s adaptability at the crease.

“He can control one end and attack when needed. Opening in England isn’t easy, but Yashasvi has the game for it,” Rahane said. Since debuting in 2023, Jaiswal has impressed with his confidence and consistency, making him India’s go-to opener.

Fast-Bowling Duo Key to Success

Rahane also highlighted the importance of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj as the leaders of India’s bowling attack.
“Bumrah is a proven wicket-taker. I want him to take more responsibility and guide the team through tough phases,” he said. He believes Siraj’s energy and ability to strike make him a perfect foil to Bumrah.

Shubman Gill’s Captaincy Test

The spotlight will also be on Shubman Gill, who steps into the role of Test captain. Rahane acknowledged the challenge of shifting from white-ball to red-ball leadership. “Test cricket demands a proactive mindset. Shubman has the potential but will need to stay a step ahead tactically,” he noted.

With a blend of youth and experience, India’s Test tour of England promises to be a thrilling contest. Backing Jaiswal and the seasoned pace duo, Rahane’s words echo a larger hope: that this young Indian side can end the 17-year wait and script history once again on English soil.
