Suresh Raina, one of India’s most dependable middle-order batsmen, celebrates his birthday today. Known for his fearless batting and electric fielding, Raina remains a cherished figure in Indian cricket, particularly for his impactful World Cup performances.

Raina’s two memorable knocks in World Cup cricket etched his name in the hearts of millions. The first came during the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup quarterfinal against Australia. With India chasing 261 on a tricky Motera pitch, Raina joined Yuvraj Singh at a critical juncture. Calm under pressure, he scored an unbeaten 34 off 28 balls, hitting crucial boundaries to ease the mounting pressure. His partnership with Yuvraj ensured India’s path to the finals, where they ultimately triumphed as world champions after 28 years in Mumbai in 2011.

In the Semi-final Vs Pakistan, Raina proved his worth as India's crisis manager and dependable batsman by scoring 36 crucial runs which gave India a respectable total. In the end, after India’s memorable victory over arch-rivals Pakistan, cricket pundits hailed Raina for his knock under pressure.

Four years later, in the 2015 World Cup, Raina delivered another masterclass in the knockout stages. Facing Bangladesh in the quarterfinal, he smashed an aggressive 65 off 57 balls, stabilizing India’s innings after a shaky start. His innings not only lifted India to a commanding total but also showcased his ability to shine on the grandest stage.
