Ganguly had a very strong personality for which he could not be bullied. During a Test match against Australia, he made opposition captain Steve Waugh wait for the toss. Waugh still thinks Ganguly did that intentionally to get a psychological edge over the Aussies.

Once Sourav Ganguly and spin great Shane Warne were at loggerheads in the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) over the legibility of a catch.
